Hugo Tekstra (1992) lives and works in Leeuwarden
HUGO TEKSTRA
I’m a visual artist from Leeuwarden, the Netherlands (1992). I work across collage, drawing, film and installation, often using discarded cardboard and paper to build physical worlds.
My work starts from everyday life: personal experiences, familiar places and fragments of memory. I’m interested in how these things change through imagination — how an ordinary experience can become strange or surreal, and how memories and dreams can merge into images that take on a reality of their own.
I’m drawn to the directness and DIY character of cardboard and paper. Their roughness and imperfections allow me to build intuitively and make ideas tangible, while leaving the traces of the making visible. In this process, the material becomes part of the story itself.
I’m currently developing a solo exhibition based on my years as a pizza delivery driver in Leeuwarden.
